College of New Rochelle to Host Art Therapy Workshop

The 'Art Therapy with Children' conference will take place on Saturday, April 8 at the College of New Rochelle.

From Thompson & Bender: The College of New Rochelle Graduate School – Division of Professional and Fine Arts will host a conference called “Art Therapy with Children: An Investment in Our Future” on Saturday, April 8.

The day-long conference will focus on art therapy as a preventative tool in the treatment of children, with an emphasis on early diagnosis, which could significantly decrease the later development of pathologies that are more difficult to treat.

“Our children are our society,” said Dr. Patricia St John, EdD, ATR-BC, LCAT, Chair of the Division of Professional & Fine Arts and Professor in the Graduate School at The College of New Rochelle. “Can much of the hatred and violence we now see in the world around us be eliminated by early intervention? The conference will address this question in depth.”

Lastly, it will focus on identifying where art therapy is going and the challenges that are faced, as well as how to prepare for those challenges.

The remainder of the conference will include panel discussions – focused on the successes, challenges, and future developments in child art therapy – followed by lunch, breakout workshops, and a cocktail reception.
