Cooking Grease Bandits Deployed Oil Slick Trying To Elude Cops: DEC

A New Rochelle police chase ended with the suspects dumping 50 to 100 gallons of cooking oil onto a roadway.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Police say a couple of well-seasoned cooking oil thieves weren't quite as slick as they thought they were.

On Nov. 21, NYS Environmental Conservation Officers got an interesting call from the New Rochelle Police Department requesting assistance in a case involving two suspects who police said stole used cooking oil.

The two accused grease bandits led police on a chase, eventually stopping and dumping 50 to 100 gallons of cooking oil onto the roadway.

NYS Environmental Conservation Officers Franz and Schuck quickly responded to the scene and issued tickets to both men for the unlawful disposal of solid waste and depositing a noisome/unwholesome substance on the highway.

The New Rochelle Critical Incident Unit cleaned up the spill. There were no impacts to the environment or public health, according to officials.
