Coronavirus In New Rochelle: School Superintendent Tests Positive

She said she will be in quarantine for two weeks from the date she was tested.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The principal of the school system at the center of the new coronavirus outbreak in Westchester County announced Saturday that she tested positive for COVID-19. Superintendent Dr. Laura Feijóo of the City School District of New Rochelle sent a letter Saturday to parents and guardians of district saying that she will be in quarantine for two weeks.

"I received my results at 10:20 a.m.," she wrote. "I was tested on Monday, March 16, 2020. According to my doctor, I must be quarantined for two weeks from that date."

Feijóo said that school board President Amy Moselhi will also be quarantined because of her close proximity through the past weeks while the district was dealing with closing schools and the aftermath.

She said her symptoms are mild and she is blessed to have the support of family, friends, colleagues and the board.

Feijóo said she is sharing the results of her test "because it impacts me and the BOE President, who have been point people fo many in the community."

She said she will ask her cabinet to use their best judgment in terms of being tested and self-quarantining.

"The district's work will continue and we remain committed to the success of each student," Feijóo said.

Three of the district's schools were closed after Gov. Andrew Cuomo mandated a 1-mile radius containment area in the northern part of the city in an attempt to slow the spread of the virus.

Feijóo announced three days later that all schools in the district would be closed.
