Empire City Casino Community Blood Drive

Empire City Casino Joins Forces with New York Blood Center to Host Third Annual Community Blood Drive. Area Residents Urged to Participate

Empire City Casino will be hosting the third annual on-site community blood drive on Wednesday, October 21st, 2015 from 1:00 pm-7:00 pm in the third floor Good Time Room. All potential blood donors are urged to participate and have the opportunity to save a life. In addition, all donors will receive a free gift from Empire City as well as a free health screening from New York Blood Center.

As the region prepares for the cooler weather, the New York Blood Center is encouraging blood donors to set aside one hour to give the gift of life and strengthen our community’s blood supply. The summer months are traditionally a challenging time for blood centers to collect donated units – school breaks, summer vacations, and warm weather all have negative impacts on blood drive scheduling and donor attendance.

The need for blood never takes a holiday. According to the blood center, about 4.5 million Americans receive blood transfusions every year, and nearly 2,000 donations are needed each day in New York and New Jersey alone.

“October is a special month as we remember those who have been touched by breast and other cancers,” said Empire City’s president and CEO Timothy Rooney. “We strive to be an active partner in our community, and it is a great time to host a blood drive and remind people how often blood saves lives.”
