“Women & Spirit: The Ursulines and Catholic Sisters in America,”

The College of New Rochelle Office of Mission and Identity will present "Women & Spirit: The Ursulines and Catholic Sisters in America," a lecture by Sr. Karen Kennelly, CSJ, highlighting the "Women and Spirit" exhibit at Ellis Island. Sr. Karen Kennelly's lecture will be on October 6, 2010, at 7 p.m. in the Student Campus Center on the Main Campus of the College.

The Ellis Island exhibit—from September 23, 2010 to January 22, 2011--focuses on the Catholic Sisters in America and the vital role they played in extending social services, educational opportunities, and health care to people from many walks of life. The exhibit features rare artifacts, media presentations, and photographs from more than 400 communities which have been brought together for the first time.

Sr. Karen Kennelly is a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet. She holds a Ph.D. in History from the University of California, Berkeley and an M.A. in History from the Catholic University of America. Her research interests include women in religion with a focus on Roman Catholic sisters in the United States and higher education.
