Friday's Farmers Market Set to Open for Season in New Rochelle

New Rochelle's second weekly farmers market is set to open for the season.

The Down to Earth Market will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Fridays, beginning June 7 through November 22 in its new location on North Avenue at Huguenot Park near the entrance to New Rochelle High School.

This year's theme, according to Communications Manager Nicole Reed, is "For the love of taste!"

She said that throughout the season shoppers can visit the Market Manager's tent for the highlighted taste of the month. As before, free recipes will be available so the market's seasonal offerings can be put to best use.

The Down to Earth Market was located at Library Green but decided to move its location after the New Rochelle City Council did not renew an agreement so the new downtown Grand Market could set up on Saturdays.

Back to back farmers markets put New Rochelle in a unique situation, said Mayor Noam Bramson.

"Having two famers markets in town gives residents a wider range of options and allows people with different schedules to take advantage of fresh produce and specialty products," he said.

Returning vendors include Alex's Tomato Farm, Dagele Brothers Produce, Horman's Best Pickles and Meredith's Bread. A new vendor—Raghoo Farms from Rhinebeck, Dutchess County, will sell pasture-raised meats and poultry, as well as eggs and seasonal produce.
