Heat Wave Possible For Hudson Valley

Temps have to be 90 or above for there consecutive days for it to officially be a heat wave. We may be on track for that.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Time will tell — literally three days — whether parts or all of the lower- and mid-Hudson Valley are set for a heat wave. The National Weather Service defines “heat wave” as “at least three consecutive days with high temperatures of at least 90 degrees.” So far, for Sunday, we are on track for Day 1 of 90-plus temperatures.

“After a nice and warm Saturday, that saw Poughkeepsie hit a high of 84 degrees, Sunday we’ll crack the 90-degree mark in the Hudson Valley,” said Hudson Valley Weather’s Bill Potter.

“Expect mostly sunny skies and HOT temperatures,” he said.

And, he said, there could be record-breaking high temps.

Tuesday’s forecast brings a chance of showers and thunderstorms, which could bring an end to a possible region-wide heat wave.

The forecast for Wednesday — at least as of Sunday — would put an end to any heat wave. The National Weather Service is only forecasting a high near 78 for White Plains.
