I-95 Police Chase Ends With Arrest In New Rochelle: Police

A collision with a police cruiser, car chase, foot pursuit and eventual illegal gun arrest capped a wild night for a Bronx suspect.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The long arm of the law caught up with a Bronx man who was being pursued by New York State police on The New England Thruway.

On Saturday, shortly before 3 p.m., New Rochelle police were notified that New York State police were pursuing a car on I-95 for a number of traffic offenses, not the least of which was colliding with a State Police cruiser and fleeing the scene. Troopers ended the pursuit as the vehicle exited the interstate highway at Exit 16 in New Rochelle.

Shortly after, NRPD found the vehicle, parked and unoccupied at the dead end of Fountain Place. Police located the driver who reportedly attempted to flee on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect, who was later identified as Toumani Diabate of the Bronx, was taken into custody.

A Kahr .380 caliber handgun was discovered in the 19-year-old's possession, according to police. Diabate is charged with criminal possession of a weapon.
