Iona Offering New Masters Degree in Sports Communication and Media

Students will get real-world experience reporting on sports events and producing television and radio coverage of them.

New Rochelle, NY — A new degree program at Iona College in New Rochelle is designed to prepare students for the world of sports media.

The new Master of Arts degree program in Sports Communication & Media will launch in the fall.

According to a spokeswoman, students will be trained to function at the highest level of professionalism and integrity in all aspects of sports media, including live game reporting and producing, television and radio production and writing, producing sports documentaries and all digital facets.

The program will blends traditional coursework with real-world broadcasting of professional and collegiate sports.

Mike Damergis, the program coordinator, said the students will create content that will be broadcast on the Fantasy Sports Network and have an opportunity to produce live sporting events.

“Advanced students will have the chance to cover professional teams throughout Westchester County, Connecticut and New York City,” he said. “Learn by doing is the motto here.”
