Iona Prep Students Leave New Rochelle for Spring Break Activities
One group focuses on homelessness and hunger.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Students at Iona Preparatory School in New Rochelle left the school for spring break, taking trips that were at time global in scope.

According to a spokesman for the school, one student traveled to Italy and was staying in Rome when the terrorist attacks happened in Brussels.
He reported that the famed Trevi Fountain was adorned in the red, yellow and black colors of the Belgian flag.

Senior Andrew Cannistraci competed in a track and field event at the Mount Carmel Invitational in San Diego, California.
He was one of 2,600 athletes at the meet and won the shot put with a personal-best throw of 62 feet, 4.25 inches. That was the second longest throw recorded by a Westchester County high school athlete.
Iona Prep’s baseball team returned from Fort Pierce, Florida, after taking part in practices and scrimmages, including one each against fellow Westchester high school teams from Fox Lane, Harrison and Pleasantville.
And finally, a group of Iona Prep students left Monday, March 28 for Washington, D.C., for a service trip focusing on homelessness and poverty.
Organized in conjuction with the Youth Service Opportunities Project, the trip’s mission is to help young adults become part of the solution to society’s problems by showing them that even minor actions can make differences in the lives of others.
The Gaels are using the name MAD@DCHunger and the hashtag #MADatDCHunger. MAD stands for Make a Difference.
