Irish Enclave Embraces McGuigan: Logan, Rickie Murphy, Gaelic Football Players, Brendan Burke Among Crowd

Hall of Fame Irish Boxer Barry McGuigan joins fans at Heritage Bar in Yonkers.

You Might as Well Have Been in Belfast! Carl Frampton's manager, International Boxing Hall of Famer Barry McGuigan, was greeted by over 100 expatriates at The Heritage bar on McLean Avenue in Yonkers, New York last night (Thursday, July 21). The former featherweight champ continued the hype for Carl "The Jackal" Frampton vs. Leo Santa Cruz, July 30, at Barclays Center on Showtime Championship Boxing. More than 100 were delighted to meet the former champ, including young Logan Murphy, and his dad Rickie Murphy; a gaggle of Gaelic football players from County Tyrone, and neighborhood good guy Brendan Burke as liaison with bartender Paul Friel who set up the appearance. McGuigan signed autographs, posed for pictures with the excited customers, and talked boxing from his championship reign to Frampton vying for the same title he held 30 years ago. The McLean Avenue section of Yonkers and nearby Woodlawn in The Bronx has a heavy Irish population. The Heritage has a bus planned for fight night, and judging from last night’s crowd may need more than one. The Heritage is also planning a viewing party for its customers not attending the live action.
