The Hudson Valley Visiting Pet Program will celebrate 20 years of providing animal assisted therapy and education to the Rockland, Orange, Westchester and Bergen County area with a fun summer party at Provident Bank Ballpark on Sunday, August 17. The exclusive event, which will be held on the beautiful, private Sunset Deck, begins at 4:00pm and the game starts at 5:00pm.
Since 1994 Hudson Valley Visiting Pets (HVVPP) has been helping patients to heal, and children to read, throughout the Hudson Valley area. Over those two decades the dedicated volunteers and their furry companions have received nationwide recognition, awards and praise for their selfless and tireless efforts.

The basic premise of HVVPP is that well-trained, sweet-tempered dogs will bring cheer, relaxation, and even confidence, to children and adults who are in need. Every day of the week, the Hudson Valley Visiting Pet teams visit hospitals, nursing homes, schools and other facilities in Rockland, Orange, Bergen and Westchester counties. Several teams worked at Ground Zero for weeks after the tragedy helping first responders deal with the stress and anguish of the long days. Many teams in the organization are certified with Reading Education Assistance Dogs, a literacy program founded 15 years ago in Utah and now internationally recognized, and regularly visit schools and libraries to help children overcome their resistance or fear of reading.
“Over the years we have experienced incredibly positive interactions with young and old, those dealing with stress, individuals dealing with illness, and those simply in need of a warm friendly nose to cuddle; it is a magical experience for everyone involved and truly helps with healing,” says Dolores Schaub, Program Director.

HVVPP, which offers training several times a year for those interested in learning how to work with their animals, is entirely supported by public donations, relying on community contributions to continue its important work. Successful fundraising is essential - and HVVPP fundraising is always fun!
On Sunday, August 17th, the special event will feature a sumptuous buffet, beverages, a silent auction of sensational items, and a 50/50 raffle. As a special treat, guests will have the opportunity to meet several of the exceptional dogs who are members of the HVVPP group.
Tickets are $75.00 per person and all proceeds go to the Hudson Valley Visiting Pets Program. Checks can be sent to HVVPP, 104 Lake Rd. Valley Cottage, NY, 10989. Those who can’t attend but wish to make a donation can also send in a check. For more information, call 845-267-8795 or visitwww.hudsonvalleyvisitingpets.com
