Millionaire Mare Hannellore Hanover Accepts Invitation to $1 Million Yonkers International Trot

Hannellore is the third to accept invitation, joining Italy's Oasis Bi and Sweden's On Track Piraten.

Millionaire mare Hannelore Hanover is the third world-class trotter to accept an invitation to the $1 million Yonkers International Trot set for Saturday afternoon, October 15, at Yonkers Raceway.

The four-year-old Indiana-bred daughter of Swan for All will make her Yonkers and half-mile track debut in the global affair, opposing the boys at the mile-and-quarter distance.

A first post of 1:10 PM has been requested for the special afternoon program, with the Yonkers International Trot post time to be determined.

Hannelore has career earnings of $1,091,685, $786,111 of which has been bankrolled this season. Her lifetime-best 1:51 effort for a mile was registered at Mohawk in the $208,260 final of the Armbro Flight in June.

In addition to whipping the ladies in the Armbro Flight, she did so in $188,000 Fresh Yankee (Meadowlands) and the $170,000 Muscle Hill (Vernon), as well.

She beat the boys in the $471,200 Hambletonian Maturity (Meadowlands), and again her $30,800 elimination of the Maple Leaf Trot (Mohawk), before finishing second (to Resolve) in last Saturday night’s $480,320 final.

As a three-year-old, she won Hoosier’s $220,000 Super Final of the Indiana Sire Stakes (Hoosier).

Hannelore Hanover has 14 wins and two seconds in 16 tries this season, and has won 23 of her 37 career starts (35 in-the-money) for co-owners (Burke Racing, trainer) Ron Burke, Weaver Bruscemi, Frank Baldachino and J&T Silva Stables.

She originally sold for just $32,000.

“She can do it any way,’ regular driver Yannick Gingras said. "She’s very slick-gaited. When she won twice at the 1 1/8 miles (Meadowlands), the extra distance wasn’t a problem, so I don’t think the mile-and-a-quarter is a concern.

“I’ve loved her from the first time I sat behind her. Part of the reason she went to Mohawk is to showcase her,” Gingras added. “We’re glad Yonkers thought she was a worthy entrant, and I expect her to race well.”

Hannelore Hanover has some history to play with. Eight mares have won the International Trot at least once, including:

  • Armbro Flight [CAN]), 1966
  • Roquepine [FRA], 1967-68
  • Une de Mai [FRA], 1969, 1971
  • Fresh Yankee [CAN], 1970
  • Delmonica Hanover [USA], 1973-74
  • Classical Way [USA], 1980
  • Kit Lobell [USA], 1989
  • Peace Corps [SWE], 1991

Hannelore Hanover joins a pair of returnees—Sweden’s On Track Piraten and Italy’s Oasis Bi—as confirmed attendees, with more among the scheduled 10-horse field to be announced shortly.
