New Rochelle District Administrator Receives Special Education Award
The award is from the New York Council of Administrators of Special Education.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A New Rochelle school district administrator was singled out for a special award.
The New York Council of Administrators of Special Education awarded its first “Special Education Administrator of the Year” award to Yvette Goorevitch, director of special and alternative education for the City School District of New Rochelle.
According to a district spokeswoman, the award, established this year, recognizes an individual who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and accomplishment for the benefit of students with disabilities.

It was announced at the 2016 NYCASE Summer Institute at the Gideon Putnam Resort in Saratoga Springs.
Goorevitch said she shares the award professionals and parents whom she's had the pleasure of working with over the last two decades.

“The award recognized the innovative programs that serve as models for replication. I accepted the award on behalf of all our children with special needs who remind me every day to always assume competence,” she said.
Goorevitch has spent nearly 40 years in public education working with students with disabilities and their families. She's been with the New Rochelle district for 25 years.
Under her leadership, a spokeswoman said, the district has been awarded numerous grants and awards, including the Model Transition Program award, a demonstration grant to support the implementation of Positive Behavioral Strategies and Project SEARCH, a nationally recognized Transition Planning Model.
