New Rochelle exposes kids to Agent Orange type toxins.
This summer New Rochelle took children into the toxic spoils emitted from the channel that containes PCBs and dioxins.

New Rochelle has assumed "Lead Agency" status in the Pratts Landing remediation project yet it has denied any PCBs or sanitary sewage was discharged there for over 30 years. As "Lead Agency" it must now remediate the PCBs, lead, mercury, benzene, there, and plans to begin soon. As the warm weather aproaches children, swimmers, and fishermen will be exposed to the hazardous toxins as the flow and ebb of two 9 foot daily tides and the force of the North Avenue Thruway drain push those chemicals out further into the bay. The agencies and City have omitted the fact that dioxins are also part of the mix. Dioxins are the toxic ingredient in Agent Orange, was responsiable for many thousands of deaths after (9/11 from its dust, and the emergency evacuations of places like Love Cannal New York. This area is already responsible for many cancers, sicknesses and deaths. It's unconscionable the City would use children as props to promote the developement of the area using tax payers dollars under the cover of a "Brownfield Cleanup" thus letting those responsiable off the hook for causing the damage. We're talking hundreds of millions of dollars. Billions of dollars were already spent on Long Island Sound studies to no avail if the most toxic area goes on poisioning the area for over 30 years. Seems those billions wound up in someones pockets. There are EPA and Department of Health protocals in areas that contain dioxins that must be followed before any work can commence and those laws are being sidesteped. Time to force the City of New Rochelle to act responsibly when it comes to our kids and put them above profit. A proper and complete cleanup is mandated to protect the people in the area and the fish people eat, already the most toxic in New York State.
