New Rochelle Library Has Successful Summer

It was a good summer for the New Rochelle Public Library.

Community Relations Coordinator Barbara Davis said the library was almost at capacity for every single program.

"We had 288 programs in six weeks," she said. "We accommodated close to 7,000 participants."

Davis said the likes of classic Disney movies, summer reading events and an international dance and music series made, in her opinion, the library a destination.

"I think the library is a really fun place in the summer," she said. "It really sparks people's lives."

Davis also noted, that when school is not in session, "the libraries are the place to be."

And the programs and special events lead to something else.

"The people and kids who come here ultimately check out books and other materials, like DVDs," Davis said. "That is what a library is really for."

The programs and events were paid for by the Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library, with some funding from the New Rochelle Public Library Foundation and the Partnership for the Huguenot Children's Library.

"Not one bit of taxpayer money went to the summer programs," Davis said.
