New Rochelle OKs Memo of Understanding to Move Public Works Facility

If the proposal comes to fruition, the department will occupy two locations near I-95.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle City Council has approved a memorandum of understanding that would move the city’s Public Works facility on the Long Island Sound to two locations near I-95.

According to information provided by the city, the majority of the department’s bureaus would be moved to 70 Nardozzi Place, located adjacent to Costco.

The Operations Center would be a new 130,000-square-foot facility in the bottom floor of a five-story commercial building through a public-private partnership agreement and long-term lease.

The Sanitation Bureau would be move to the city’s current leaf transfer site on Beechwood Avenue.

Cost of completion for both sites is estimate at $30 million.

Mayor Noam Bramson said the new City Yard will enable the delivery of essential public works services efficiently and effectively for decades.

“At the same time, we will be freeing up valuable waterfront property—inaccessible to the public for over a century—for higher and better use,” he said.
