New Rochelle PD Will Conduct Live Tactical Drills At Trinity School
Preparedness drills are required for state certification, and also help to be prepared in case of a real emergency, officials said.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — As families are preparing for back to school, first responders will be preparing to respond to an emergency, should the unthinkable happen.
In a letter sent to the New Rochelle school community on Wednesday, Superintendent Corey W. Reynolds announced that the New Rochelle Police Department will be conducting a live drill on Monday, August 14 at Trinity Elementary School with simulated gunfire. The drill will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Only blank rounds, and not projectiles, will be used in the training.

Neighbors who hear what will sound like gunfire coming from the elementary school on Monday, and see police and fire department activity, do not need to be alarmed.
No students, faculty or staff will be present in the school during the drill.

More than 40 police and fire responders will be on hand at the staged scene and 30 youth volunteers will be playing the roles of victims.
The superintendent said that student, faculty and staff safety is the district's highest priority, and that working together with community partners on preparedness drills is required for state certification, and also helps the school and first responders to be prepared in case of a real emergency.
"Thank you in advance for giving our first responders the opportunity to conduct this important drill without onlookers or unnecessary traffic in the area," Reynolds said. "Working together, we can provide the safest possible environment in our school community and in the community of New Rochelle."
