New Rochelle Public Library Commemorates Holocaust Remembrance Day
The documentary "Zaida" will be screened, followed by discussion with second generation survivor.
The New Rochelle Public Library will commemorate Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) with the screening of the documentary Zaida, followed by a Q & A discussion with a second generation Holocaust survivor (grandchild of a survivor) on Tuesday, April 18, 6:00 pm, at the New Rochelle Public Library, 1 Library Plaza.
Henri Parens escaped from the Holocaust at the age of 12, and went on to become a globally recognized psychoanalyst, dedicating his life's work to the prevention of prejudice. Zaida is the documentary film about his life, made by his granddaughter Sophie Parens. The award-winning documentary short has reached audiences across the country, screening at film festivals, schools, museums and community centers nationwide.
The discussion following the film will be moderated by Dr. Elena Procario-Foley, Br. John G. Driscoll Professor of Jewish-Catholic Studies, Director, Core Curriculum, Professor, Religious Studies, Iona University.

The library also created a list of nonfiction books to help readers learn more about the millions murdered in the Holocaust, and the heroism of survivors and rescuers, and a list of compelling fiction books set during this time period.
