New Rochelle To Relocate City Hall

The mayor announced the plan during his State of the City address.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — City Hall in New Rochelle will be relocated leaving the North Avenue building for the school district to completely take over. Mayor Noam Bramson announced the proposal at his State of the City address March 1. The new city hall will be built at the base of MacQuesten’s Harrison Street tower at 45 Harrison St., which is the current location of Fire Station No. 1.

With the move, employees, residents and visitors will be closer to shops, restaurants, green space and transportation, a spokeswoman said.

“The relocation of city hall to downtown New Rochelle is a win-win-win for our economy for our city and for our schools,” Bramson said. “This public-private partnership holds so much promise, complementing our downtown redevelopment while benefiting both our school community and taxpayers.”

Following the move, which is anticipated to take place in 2021, the City School District of New Rochelle will take over the 515 North Ave. building, allowing for more classrooms, administrative and programming space at a much lower capital expense than new construction, the city said.

In June 2017, the New Rochelle City Council unanimously selected MacQuesten Development, LLC as the winning bidder to reimagine a City-owned property at 45 Harrison Street, the current site of New Rochelle Fire Station #1. MacQuesten’s proposed $110 million, 27-story mixed-use building will also include 238 residential units, approximately 9,500 square feet of retail, a four-story parking garage and nearly 50,000 square feet of office space, into which City Hall will be incorporated.
