New Rochelle Students Now Have Access To 24-Hour Online Tutors

A partnership with Princeton Review's Tutor.com will allow free homework and study help for both English and Spanish speakers.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Students in all New Rochelle public schools now have a new resource to help them succeed in their academic pursuits.

The City School District of New Rochelle announced a partnership with Tutor.com, an affiliate of the Princeton Review. All students district-wide now have free, unlimited, round-the-clock access to live one-to-one tutoring and homework support online.

The service is available in a variety of subjects, including math, writing, science, social studies, world languages, Advanced Placement (AP) subjects and SAT prep. Students will receive personalized attention and can communicate with tutors via text-chat or voice. The tutoring will be offered in both English and Spanish languages.

"CSDNR recognizes parents’ and guardians’ resilience in supporting their children’s education. Tutor.com is a supplemental academic support to help students succeed," school district officials said in a statement announcing the initiative. "When a student is absent from school but well enough to access assignments on Google Classroom, or a student just needs homework help outside of school hours, Tutor.com can provide on-demand academic assistance."

School officials said that Tutor.com will not replace current protocols for virtual learning for students on COVID quarantine.

The school district said that there were a number of factors that helped convince officials to tap the company as resource.

School system administrators were convinced that the service is safe and secure, noting that tutors undergo rigorous vetting. The tutoring sessions are recorded and reviewed. Students’ identities are kept anonymous (neither the student nor the tutor ever see each other).

The district also said that Princeton Review's proven track record helped to seal the deal.

The Tutor.com online classroom allows students to use a whiteboard, text and code editor interfaces, graphing calculators, and other tools to communicate with tutors in real time, district officials said. Tutors have the mission of helping students figure out problems by themselves — never just providing answers.

Students can access Tutor.com by signing into district-provided devices, accessing the district’s launchpad, and clicking the Tutor.com icon to start a live tutoring session. Students using a non-district-provided device must sign into the Launchpad portal first.
