One firefighter has a familial connection with experience totaling more than 180 years.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New firefighters for the City of New Rochelle were welcomed into the department July 17. City Manager Chuck Strome III and Mayor Noam Bramson congratulated the newest members of the New Rochelle Fire Department at fire headquarters.

After completing 17 weeks of training at the academy in Westchester, the city welcomed Firefighter Louis Riso, Firefighter Robert Pegues and two legacy families: second generation Firefighter Ricardo Ramos Jr. and third generation Firefighter Ted Cordaro.

“We are very fortunate to have these young men join our department,” said New Rochelle Fire Chief Andy Sandor. “It’s also great to know some of these men are continuing the family tradition.”

The impetus for the Cordaro family was Ted Cordaro’s grandfather Sal Cordaro Sr. who served for 38 years. Firefighter Ted Cordaro will also be joining his father Firefighter Sal Cordaro Jr. and four uncles — Lt. Christopher Cordaro, Firefighter Paul Cordaro, Firefighter Peter Cordaro and Firefighter Robert Cordaro. The Cordaro’s combined legacy totals 181 years.
