NY's Losing Population: Reasons Include Weather, Cost [POLL]
The decrease in population means that the state's representation in Congress could decrease. Do you want to move out of the state?

According to a released recently study, New York is on track to lose two congressional districts in 2020, which is the next time redistricting takes place. There are a fixed number of congressional seats and they are divvied up among the 50 states every 10 years.
Election Data Services, which released the report Dec. 19, said that New York is one of seven states that are going to lose one seat in Congress using the 2018 Census Bureau data.
Projecting out to 2020, EDS said a second New York seat could be lost.

Why is this happening? States don't lose representation in Congress unless they lose population.
The Empire Center, a nonpartisan, nonprofit think tank in Albany, also recently released a report which was based on the Census Bureau's annual update of population estimates.

It found that New York leads the nation — once again — in net outflow of residents to others states.
"During the 12 months ending last July 1, 180,306 more residents moved out of New York State than moved in from the rest of the country," Empire Center's report said.
"Largely due to this migration trend, New York was one of only nine states to experience a population decline during this period. The Census Bureau now estimates that New York State's population has dropped by 119,202 since 2015," it said.
Yes, there was an influx of immigrants and the state was credited with a "births-over-deaths natural increase," but the hard fact is that New York's total population decreased by 48,510, or 0.2 percent, to 19,378,012.
Keep in mind that the total estimated U.S. population of 327 million was up about 0.6 percent.

Stevens Worldwide Van Lines has been keeping track of how many moves have taken place in every state in the union, except Hawaii because you can't drive to there.
According to its study, New York saw almost twice as many outbound relocations as inbound.
Stevens found that there were 7,317 moves into the state in 2017 and more than 13,000 moving out of the state.
The state ranked fifth in the nation in the number of out-of-state moves and ninth in the number of inbound moves.
Why are people moving out of the Empire State?
According to a LendingTree report released earlier in December, and published by MarketWatch, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut were among the top five places people are moving out of fastest.
The reasons are high costs, the weather and jobs, and the top state people in New York are moving to is Florida.
By the way, did anyone mention that winter officially began Friday, Dec. 21?
