Officer Hurt In Crash As Yonkers Police Pursue NYC Carjacking Suspects

It happened Sunday afternoon as cops closed in on suspects wanted in connection with an armed robbery just a few miles away.

YONKERS, NY — A Yonkers police officer was injured after he was hit by a car believed to have been involved in an earlier carjacking in New York City, officials said.

The tense situation unfolded just days after a veteran Yonkers Police Sergeant was killed in a tragic crash involving a teenage new driver and a Bee-Line bus on Tuckahoe Road on Thursday.

Officers responded to the area of Point St. at Ravine Ave. shortly after 3 p.m. on Sunday on reports of an occupied vehicle wanted in connection with a reported NYC armed robbery (carjacking).

Once officers were on the scene, three suspects attempted to flee, authorities said. The attempt to elude police resulted in a crash, police officials said in a statement.

A Yonkers police officer was struck by the suspect vehicle, officials said. He was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
