The body of Ferdinand Lagos, 39, of Manchester, Conn., was found after a search Monday that spanned the Southold shoreline as rescuers scoured the rough waters for signs of the missing man.
According to Southold Town Police, at 3:43 a.m. an Orient resident was awakened by the yelling for help from the beach in front of their house and called police.

Upon the arrival of an officer, he found two females on the beach suffering from hypothermia. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that 26-year-old Delfina Reynoso and her 8-year-old daughter, of Hartford, Conn., had launched a kayak and stand-up paddleboard from Hammonasset Park in Madison, Conn. with 30-year-old Abdias Ventura, of Hartford, and Lagos, of Manchester, Conn.
Wind and tide pushed the two watercraft offshore by 9 p.m. Sunday night; Reynoso and her daughter landed onshore in Orient and the deceased body of Ventura was located onshore about a quarter mile west of the women, police said.
A search for Lagos continued Monday morning and his body was found off the shore of Connecticut around 12:15 p.m.
The U.S. Coast Guard coordinated the search, which included Southold Police, as well as the Cutchogue, Southold, Greenport. East Marion and Orient fire departments.
Reynoso and her daughter were taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital, a release said.
Some who were out on the water yesterday said the current was extremely rough.
The Coast Guard is still searching for a paddle boarder who went missing off Atlantic Beach on Sunday evening. Coast Guard members also rescued two men after their boat capsized near Fire Island Saturday afternoon.

Monday, June 13, 2016, 10 a.m.: One person has died, two others are injured on Long Island and a fourth person is still missing in Connecticut waters in what appears to be a kayaking accident, Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection officials said Monday morning.
Crews are searching for a missing kayaker at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison who went missing sometime Sunday night. The missing person is a 44-year-old Manchester man, DEEP said.
While the search continues for the missing man, the story of tragedy begins in Long Island.
Details are still sparse for now, but DEEP spokesman Dennis Schain said "one person was pronounced dead in Long Island this morning and two others taken to the hospital after they were found on a beach in the Suffolk County Long Island town of Southold, N.Y."
"A fourth person who was apparently with them when they set off with a kayak and a paddleboard from Hammonasset Beach State Park, Madison, sometime Sunday evening is still missing according to the CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Environmental Conservation (EnCon) police," Schain's statement continues.
The deceased is a 31-year old male, Schain said. He was pronounced dead by Long Island authorities in Southold. The two others — an adult female and a young girl — were taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital where they are being treated for hypothermia and are in stable condition, Schain said.
The woman and youngster were found on the beach early Monday morning after their calls were heard by a nearby resident. The deceased was located a short distance away, Schain said.
EnCon Police are assisting the Southold Police Department in the investigation. There is still an ongoing search for the missing person involving the U.S. Coast Guard and multiple local fire departments.
