A and P to Sell Hudson Valley Stores as Part of Bankruptcy Filing
The supermarket chain is planning to sell a total of 120 stores companywide and close two dozen more.

Struggling supermarket chain A&P will sell 120 of its stores and close 25 more as part of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing Monday, the company announced.
The trade publication Supermarket News writes that the company will sell its Hudson Valley stores in Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties, and other nearby areas, to Acme Markets, Stop&Shop Supermarket Co. and Key Food Stores Co-Operative Inc.
Acme is taking the lion share of those locations, including stores in Bedford, Bronxville, Yonkers, Yorktown, Brewster, Rye Brook, Greenburgh and Briarcliff Manor, among others. In addition to A&P, the chain also owns Pathmark, Waldbaum’s and Superfresh stores.

In total, the company has 296 stores. The fate of the other 151 stores was not immediately known, but the company has enlisted investment bank Evercore Partners to help it sell those locations, too.
“The vast majority of our stores remain open for business and we will continue to serve your shopping needs during this process,” the company stated.
