Parking Restrictions, Street Closed For Sergeant Gualdino Memorial

As Yonkers remembers a 24-year veteran police officer tragically killed in the line of duty, motorists will see changes this week.

YONKERS, NY — Funeral arrangements have been finalized for Sergeant Frank Gualdino, the 24-year veteran of the Yonkers Police Department who was killed in a multi-vehicle accident on Thursday.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, from 2 p.m. - 9 p.m. at Whalen and Ball Funeral Home, located at 168 Park Ave. in Yonkers.

An Inspector's Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church, located at 110 Shonnard Place in Yonkers.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Elizabeth Seton Foundation in Yonkers here. Final disposition will be private.

As the police force and the City of Yonkers mourn the loss of one of their own, motorists should be aware of parking restrictions, traffic congestion and road closures for much of the work week.

NO PARKING | 12 p.m. on Tuesday to 3 p.m. on Wednesday

  • Both sides of Park Avenue between Grant Park Drive and Lake Avenue
  • Both sides of Glenwood Avenue between Park Avenue and Waring Place

STREET CLOSURE | 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday

  • The northbound lane of Park Avenue between Ashburton Avenue and Lake Avenue will be closed; commuters should utilize Palisade Avenue for northbound travel.

Members of the public wishing to attend the event will be directed to a designated pedestrian area on Shonnard Place. Public parking is very limited - attendees are advised to seek legal street level parking several blocks away from the church.

SURROUNDING STREETS MAY BE CLOSED INTERMITTENTLY DURING THESE TIMES TO ALLOW FOR PEDESTRIAN CROSSING AND FUNERAL PROCESSION. IT IS ADVISED TO AVOID THE GENERAL AREA FOR THE DURATION OF THE EVENT, AS DELAYS WILL BE EXPECTED.

In order to assist affected residents, the Yonkers Parking Authority has lifted restrictions and fee regulations at their parking lots on Lake Avenue at Lennon Park, Palisade Avenue at Douglas Avenue, and all of their lots along Nepperhan Avenue (between Lake Avenue and Ashburton Avenue) from midnight on December 7 until midnight on December 8.
