Properties Part of New Rochelle's History to Be Recognized Saturday

After the awards presentation, a mobile walking tour will be unveiled.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Two New Rochelle properties have been recognized for the city’s Heritage Awards Program.

On Saturday, June 11, the awards will be presented to 170 Broadview Ave., former home of author E. L. Doctorow, and 320 Main St., which is the site of the former Thanhouser Film Corporation Studio.

This is the sixth year for the awards by the Heritage Task Force committee, which was created by Mayor Noam Bramson.

The presentation will begin at 2 p.m. at the Ruby Dee Park at Library Green, which is on Huguenot Street between Memorial Highway and Lawton Street.

Following the presentation, the New Rochelle Downtown History Hop will be launched.

The self-guided mobile walking tour was created by the Downtown Business Improvement District, in conjunction with the city and the New Rochelle Public Library.

Blue signs mounted at 33 downtown locations will contain a specific QR code that can be scanned or a web address that can be entered on mobile devices to access photos, audio clips and more information.
