Rocah Condemns Threats Against Manhattan DA Over Trump Investigation
In a fiery statement, the Westchester DA said that threats of violence and political retribution put prosecutorial independence at risk.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah issued a statement on Monday condemning "in the strongest terms possible" threats against Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
Bragg has become the recipient of death threats after former President Donald Trump announced that he believed an indictment would soon be handed down by a New York City Grand Jury. A letter containing a white powder and death threats was mailed to Bragg last week, according to dozens of media reports.
"As an elected District Attorney and a former federal prosecutor, I condemn, in the strongest terms possible, the explicit and implied threats of violence against any prosecutor, including the Manhattan DA," Rocah said in a statement released Monday afternoon. "Prosecutors are not immune from critique or criticism, but it should go without saying that no one should try to intimidate or threaten them by any means and for any reason. The career prosecutors, paralegals, investigators and staff of any DA’s Office trying to do their jobs deserve better."

The Westchester County District Attorney and former federal prosecutor also decried threats of political retribution against her colleague in New York City. In recent days, House Republicans have threatened to subpoena Bragg to testify before Congress. Some more radical members of the House have demanded that the prosecutor be investigated criminally without citing any evidence of wrongdoing.
"In addition, the use of congressional hearings and subpoenas for purely political purposes, threatens prosecutorial independence," Rocah said. "Our democracy depends on a system in which prosecutors and judges can operate independent of political influence. I call on elected prosecutors, regardless of political party or background, to speak out against all efforts to interfere with prosecutorial independence. This is about the rule of law, not politics.”
