Rockland Man Accused Of Having Loaded Handgun On Thruway
Police said they initially pulled the man over for multiple vehicle and traffic violations.
NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A Rockland County man was accused of having a loaded handgun while traveling on the Thruway in Westchester County.
The New York State Police said Tyrese N. Johnson, 21, of Valley Stream, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon – loaded firearm other than in a person's home/business and two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, all felonies, and unlawful possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device, a misdemeanor.
Shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday, troopers stopped a car on Interstate 95 in New Rochelle for multiple vehicle and traffic violations.

While interviewing Johnson, who was the driver, police said they established probable cause to search the vehicle.
Troopers said they found a loaded FN 509 9mm handgun in the car. It was loaded with a large capacity ammunition feeding device containing numerous rounds of ammunition.

An additional large capacity ammunition feeding device was also found in the vehicle.
Johnson was arraigned in the City of New Rochelle Court and sent to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail or $20,000 bond.
