Sacred Heart Grade School Students Offer Hope for the Holidays

Students, staff, and faculty at Sacred Heart Grade School recently collaborated with Catholic Charities of New York through its “Adopt-A-Family Program” to assist a local family in need. The school community collected more than $1,000 dollars to buy warm clothing, coats, and home goods for the family. Donations also helped to buy gift cards and toys for the children for the holidays.

The effort was spearheaded by Tracy Strub, principal of Sacred Heart Grade School and Ms. Linda Millen, the school’s admissions director. To raise funds, students made donations and “paid” for the privilege to come to school dressed in clothes other than their school uniforms.

“Our families really stepped up to the plate,” noted Millen. “Everyone was motivated by the opportunity to help bring hope to a local family in need this Christmas.”

Principal Tracy Strub noted that the school’s faith-based curriculum encourages students to think of themselves as servant-leaders.

“Service to the community is a hallmark of a Sacred Heart education,” said Strub. “Our students consistently reflect the love of Christ to friends and neighbors through service projects, conservation efforts, and by volunteering their time to help those in need. I’m extraordinarily proud of their dedication and commitment.”

Sacred Heart Grade School is located in Monastery Heights neighborhood of Yonkers and serves some 200 students of all faiths and backgrounds in grades UPK and PreK-3 through eight.
