School Administrator Who Changed 200+ Grades Fired

The changes affected more than 30 New Rochelle High School students who were taking online courses.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The high school administrator who was blamed for improperly altering hundreds of grades was fired by the board of education Tuesday. The last day for Shadia Alvarez will be Feb. 8.

Until that time, Alvarez will be on paid administrative leave, the Journal News said.

She was responsible for changing more than 200 grades affecting 32 students at the high school, per an independent investigation into the school's Credit Recovery Program.

The report, prepared by T&M Protection Resources LLC, said evidence was found that Alvarez, who oversaw the online courses, had entered new grades and changed existing ones in violation of the high school's grade-change practice and was done without any consistent, comprehensible or valid explanation.

Also, the report said it was practice prior to the 2017-18 academic year to grant full credit for students in certain units of online coursework without regard to, or review of, the quality of the work.
