'Seek Safe Harbor' Gale Warning Issued For South Sound
National Weather Service issues an urgent marine weather warning for the Long Island Sound, including areas off the NY and CT coastlines.
LONG ISLAND SOUND, NY — The National Weather Service has issued a warning that strong winds will cause hazardous seas, which could cause boats to capsize and limit visibility on the water.
A gale warning is in effect for the Long Island Sound extending from New York coastal waters and along much of the Connecticut coastline. Winds of 10 to 20 knots are expected with gusts of up to 35 knots possible. Forecasters anticipate swells between 1 and 3 feet high.
The warning is in effect from 6 p.m. on Wednesday until 2 p.m. Thursday. The NWS said winds will be highest from late tonight into early tomorrow morning.
