Snow Monday Could Affect Evening Commute

The snow won't amount to much but may make afternoon travel on the roads tricky.

Monday evening’s commute may be a little trickier because snow is in the forecast, arriving throughout the mid- and lower Hudson Valley after 3 p.m. The National Weather Service said there’s a 50 percent chance of snow after 3 p.m. for southern Westchester County. For Rockland County, snow is likely, mainly between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

For Columbia, Ulster and Dutchess counties, there is a hazardous weather outlook calling for light snow. It advises that, even though the amount of snow may be light, locally slippery travel can be expected through Monday evening.

Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather said less than half an inch of snow is expected in Poughkeepsie and Middletown, starting between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.

“So it’s really more about the timing of the event than the size of the event,” he said. “Just something to keep in mind if you have plans to be on the roads Monday afternoon.”

The good news is that Monday is the start of a warming trend. Highs will range from 22 degrees to 29 degrees Monday during the day, but there will still a wind chill effect.
