NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A traffic stop in the city led to eventual felony weapons charges after the suspect led police on a brief car chase, but authorities called off the pursuit.

On Wednesday, at about 1o p.m., New Rochelle detectives stopped a car on Beechwood Avenue driven by Shawn Gilchrest for traffic violations, police said. During the traffic stop, the 21-year-old abruptly fled in his car. A short car pursuit was quickly called off for safety reasons, but that doesn't mean the New Rochelle man managed to escape justice.

The following day, Westchester County Probation conducted a check on Gilchrest and found him in possession of a loaded 30-round extended magazine loaded with 9mm ammunition, as well as parts for a ghost gun, officials reported.
