Suspect Wasn't Alone In Car Fleeing 'Targeted' Main St. Shooting

The suspect fled in a dark colored sedan and investigators now believe there were several passengers in the car at the time of the shooting.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle police have released additional information about the investigation into a broad daylight downtown shooting.

Officials said the suspect fled in a dark colored sedan and investigators now believe there were several passengers in the car at the time of the shooting. New Rochelle Police Department detectives said they believe that the 22-year-old wounded man was the intended target of the shooter.

The victim, who is originally from Mt Vernon, but who recently became a New Rochelle resident, was shot 3 times and remains in stable condition.

Gunfire on a busy New Rochelle sidewalk on Tuesday afternoon struck just one person.

Shortly after 1 p.m., New Rochelle police received a call of shots being fired in front of 345 Main Street. Responding officers discovered the victim at the scene with multiple gunshot wounds. He was reportedly conscious and alert when police arrived. It is believed the wounded man was on the public sidewalk in front of the Peter Bracey apartments, an affordable housing community better known as "The Bracey House."

The residential building is near the heart of the Monroe College campus.

Officers gave first aid until New Rochelle Fire Department and EMS personnel arrived and continued life-saving measures.

The victim's name still has not been released by authorities.
