Terry Clements Sworn In Monday As County Legislator

The New Rochelle teacher will represent the 11th District in Westchester.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Terry Clements, who won the April 24 special election to fill the vacant 11th District seat, was sworn in Monday as a Westchester County legislator. Clements, a Democrat, now represents Pelham and part of New Rochelle.

She becomes the 13th Democrat in the 17-member chamber and is the ninth woman. According to a spokesman, that gives women a majority on the board for the first time in its history.

Clements thanked her supporters but said there’s a lot of work to be done.

“This may be a historic moment, but the most important thing is that we’re here to do the people’s work,” she said.

Clements, who teaches at Columbus School in New Rochelle, defeated Republican Jim Freeman in the special election to fill the seat vacated with long-time Legislator Jim Maisano became director of the county’s Department of Consumer Protection.
