TIM ROONEY, JR., EMPIRE CITY CASINO GENERAL COUNSEL, NAMED GRAND MARSHAL FOR YONKERS ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARADE

Empire City Casino's General Counsel Tim Rooney, Jr. has been named the Grand Marshal for the Yonkers St. Patrick's Day Parade

Tim Rooney, Jr., ‎General Counsel at Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway, has been selected 2015 Grand Marshal for the 60th Annual Yonkers St. Patrick’s Day Parade which take place on McLean Avenue on Saturday, March 21st.

“It’s quite an honor to be chosen to serve as Grand Marshal,” said Rooney. “With our family’s Irish heritage and long association with the City of Yonkers, it will be a special day for me, and the entire Rooney Family.”

In 2014 the South Broadway St. Patrick’s Day Parade merged with the McLean Avenue Merchant’s Association St. Patrick’s Day Parade. This combination began a new era for Yonkers in honoring our Irish heritage, contributions and Saint Patrick, the Patron Saint of Ireland and the Archdiocese of New York.

The official installation of Mr. Rooney as Grand Marshal and the Aides for the 2015 Parade will take place on Saturday, March 7, at a gala celebration of the “Changing of the Sash” in the Good Time Room at the Empire City Casino at 7:30 p.m.

The Parade will be underway on March 21 following a Mass at St. Barnabas High School Chapel on McLean Avenue, when marchers step off at 1:00 p.m. on McLean Avenue west of Bronx River Road.

Tim is the son of casino and raceway president and CEO Timothy J. Rooney, Sr.

Bio: Timothy J. Rooney, Jr., General Counsel Empire City Casino, is part of the senior management team supervising the property and it’s nearly 1,400 employees.

Previously, Rooney led the Cable Telecommunications Association of New York, the leading trade and advocacy organization for the cable television industry in the State of New York, as its President and Chief Executive Officer. Prior to that he spent six years as Regional Vice President of Government and Public Affairs for Cablevision, where was instrumental on a successful campaign against the proposed West Side Stadium, as well as developing and implementing the overall government and public affairs strategy for the Greater Hudson Valley.

As an associate in Westchester’s premier law firm, Bleakley Platt & Schmidt, Rooney gained extensive experience in a diverse range of general litigation matters. Prior to that Mr. Rooney clerked for the U.S. District Judge Charles Brieant of the Southern District of New York.

Empire City Casino has flourished under Rooney’s supervision. He has played a leading role within the organization developing it into one of the largest entertainment and gaming destinations in the Northeast. In 2013, Rooney oversaw the construction and grand opening of the casino’s $50 million expansion and is currently working on future expansion plans.

Rooney was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and raised in Westchester County. He attended Stonehill College in Northeastern, Massachusetts graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Management. He earned his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law and was a recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award for excellence in criminal law. Rooney currently resides in New York City and has four children: Eileen, Elizabeth, Timothy & Patrick.
