Volunteers Needed to 'Pitch In' at Glen Island

The one-day event will spruce up county parks, pathways and nature centers.

Westchester County is asking for residents to turn out Sunday, April 14, to help clean up the county's parks, including New Rochelle's Glen Island Park.

"Pitch in for Parks" is the annual effort to have volunteers turn out to do debris removal, flower bed preparation, staining, painting, sweeping cleaning. The county's pathways and nature centers will also be spruced up.

The effort will take place around the county from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, though a sign at Glen Island said it begins at 10 a.m. The rain date is Saturday, April 20. The long-range forecast from the National Weather Service calls for mostly sunny skies and a high near 55 for Sunday.

County Executive Robert Astorino said this event is the largest single-day volunteer activity of the year in the county.

"I invite everyone to get out in the fresh spring air, enjoy some exercise  and have some fun," he said. "Together, we can accomplish great things all over the county parks on this one day."
