WEATHER UPDATE: Coastal Flooding Statement Issued Due to Heavy Rains

The National Weather Service warns Westchester residents to be on lookout for flooding conditions.

After a glorious weekend of weather, which brought bright sunshine both days, and 70 degrees on Saturday, it’s back to reality today in Westchester County with heavy rain and possible flooding.

The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Statement warning about possible localized flooding particularly around the high tide cycle. Most vulnerable are shore roads and/or basements in and around those areas.

Tides are expected to be 6 inches to a foot above astronomical levels, according to the NWS.

We’ll be dealing with heavy rain, which we need, and fog for most of Monday and Monday evening. Also winds will be gusty between 25-30 mph for most of the day, according to the NWS and HudsonValleyWeather.com.

“By late morning, the moderate to heavy rain will likely still be falling across the Hudson Valley,” writes Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. “This batch of rainfall should begin to slowly exit the region during the mid afternoon hours, leaving scattered showers in the wake. The action quiets down toward the evening commute, as we should have mainly cloudy skies, with a few showers possible.”

During the day today the amount of rain could approach an inch in some areas of Westchester County. Also the temperatures will be hovering in the high 40s to low 50s, another big change from this past weekend.

Rain will continue Monday night and up to another half inch of rain is possible before it ends early Tuesday. The temps rebound on Tuesday as cloudy skies turn partly sunny in the afternoon and we could approach 70 degrees again.

More rain showers are possible Wednesday, followed by sunny skies Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Each day the temps are forecast to be in the low to mid-50s.

Stay dry today and have a great week!
