'Winter Weather Advisory' Issued by National Weather Service for Westchester

A wintry mix is settling over the Lower Hudson Valley, which could make Monday morning's commute a little tricky.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Southern Westchester County, according to the National Weather Service, which says freezing rain, snow and sleet are settling over the region.

The precipitation will last from Sunday into Tuesday, and the advisory is in effect from midnight tonight to 6 a.m. Tuesday.

“A mix of snow... freezing rain... and sleet [Sunday] evening will transition over to mainly snow by late Monday morning,” writes the NWS. ”Hazardous travel due to snow and ice accumulations along with reduced visibilities.”

Snow accumulations could be between two and five inches, with a layer of ice on top. Last week, forecasters thought snow could reach or exceed eight inches in some areas, but they revised those predictions by the weekend.

Some icing will occur as temperatures generally stay below freezing into Tuesday.
