Community responds to Goodyear closing in Niagara Falls (wkbw.com) — Niagara Falls is bracing for the Oct. 31 shutdown of Goodyear’s 56th Street plant, ending 80 years of operations and leaving dozens of local workers facing job losses. Residents and officials are weighing the economic hit against long-standing worries about cancer-causing emissions and the daunting cleanup of yet another chemically contaminated industrial site in the city’s neighborhoods.
   

2. Niagara Falls mayor backs relocating family near Love Canal (wivb.com) — A Niagara Falls family living just north of Love Canal may be relocated after industrial waste and toxic chemicals were found in and around their 99th Street home. Mayor Robert Restaino is publicly urging state health and environmental agencies to move the family while expanded testing proceeds, as activists file a rare petition demanding a ruling on relocation and possible chemical migration from the old landfill.
   

3. Suitor happy to be back in Youngstown (wnypapers.com) — A longtime Town of Niagara police chief who now works at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center has returned to lead the Village of Youngstown Police Department again. James Suitor says he’ll use his experience to keep the small department in state compliance, engage residents through focus groups and communication, and focus on assessing community needs and quality-of-life concerns.
   

4. Niagara Falls Tops Turns Into Lucky Lottery Stop (shorenewsnetwork.com) — If you shop at the Tops on Portage Road in Niagara Falls, someone in your neighborhood just hit a $15,888 TAKE 5 jackpot from Thursday night’s drawing. The winning ticket was sold at the 1000 Portage Road store, and the anonymous winner has up to a year to claim the prize while lottery proceeds continue supporting New York public schools.
