• Community responds to Goodyear closing in Niagara Falls (wkbw.com) — Goodyear’s decision to close its 56th Street plant in Niagara Falls on Oct. 31 will end 80 years of operations and cost an undetermined number of local jobs, worrying workers and neighbors alike. While officials note the economic hit to Niagara County, nearby residents are also raising questions about long-term health impacts and how thoroughly the contaminated site will be cleaned up.
   

• Niagara Falls mayor backs relocating family near Love Canal (wivb.com) — Niagara Falls officials are pressing New York State to consider relocating a 99th Street family living just 300 feet from Love Canal after tests found heavy metals and chemicals in and around their home. The mayor and local activists have filed a rare administrative petition demanding a ruling on relocation and a deeper investigation, while state agencies continue sampling to determine any needed cleanup.
