19-Year-Old Charged With DWI After North Fork Crash Injuring 2: Police

The crash took place early Sunday when he hit a utility pole in Cutchogue, police say.

CUTCHOGUE, NY — A motorist was charged with driving while intoxicated after a Cutchogue crash that left two injured early Sunday, police said.

According to Southold Town police, the incident took place at 5:52 a.m. at the intersection of County Route 48 and Bridge Lane. Jaime Mendez-Cano, 19, was arrested and charged with DWI, first offense, after he crashed while heading east and hit a utility pole, police said.

The Cutchogue Fire Department responded and treated two passengers for injuries sustained in the crash; one passenger was transported by Suffolk County Police aviation to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of his injuries, police said.

Mendez-Cano was placed under arrest, transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and subsequently transported to Southold Police headquarters for processing, police said.
