2 Boaters Rescued After Vessel Overturns In Bay

They were fishing when their boat got hit by the wake of two vessels, police say.

NORTH FORK, NY — Two boaters were rescued after their vessel overturned Sunday in the Great Peconic Bay, police said.

According to Southold town police, the incident took place on Sunday at 12:58 p.m. when Jeff Muller, 50, of Medford, and Alejandro Peterson, 34, of S. Setauket were fishing in a 12-foot McKee Craft boat and were hit by the wake of two vessels. Water rushed in over the stern, flooding the boat, which flipped over, police said.

Ted Webb, 54, of Mattituck, who was boating in the area, saw them in the water and called police; he waited until Southold bay constables arrived, police said.

Sea Tow was called and towed the vessel to Strong's Marine; the men sustained no injuries, police said.
