2 Young Filmmakers Travel To Guatemala To Spotlight Immigration
"We will bring a film together for the audience to take a walk in Guatemalans' shoes."

LONG ISLAND, NY — Two young filmmakers are embarking upon a journey so that they can show the world what it's like to walk in an immigrant's shoes.
The pair have created a GoFundMe, "Guatemala Film Project", to raise funds for a trip to Central America, where they will create their film.
Rosario Rodriguez and Charlie Ehrman , who both participated in a life-changing program, the Manhattan Film Institute, on the North Fork, said they have to decided to "run after their filmmaking dreams and go to Central America."

The pair decided to take the leap of faith and bring more awareness to the Latinx community, more specifically Guatemalans, they said.
"We will also be traveling with Marvin Rodriguez and his non-profit organization Yuntos to document the importance of giving back to ... communities with something that sometimes we may take for granted — shoes!"

The purpose of the film, they agreed, is to bring better insight and an understanding as to why Guatemalans migrate to the United States.
"Which will also explains why something as small as shoes are super important," they added. "With the ability to use our skills, knowledge, and passion all in one, we will bring a film together for the audience to take a walk in Guatemalans' shoes. We both feel passionate about Latinos and, in this case, immigrants, as well. Especially since in media we do not always see or hear the stories of Guatemalans being represented."

The two have decided to chase their dreams and challenge the notion of fear of failure — choosing, instead, to be successful, they said.
They quoted Will Smith: "Fear is not real. It's a product of thoughts that you create. Do not misunderstand me. Danger is very real, but fear is a choice." They added: "We both are choosing to be fearless."
But they need financial support; their budget of $3,000 to fund the film will be going toward equipment — such as renting cameras and a drone — renting audio, insurance and extra batteries.
"The biggest and most important part of this project is our safety. Since we both reside in the United States we need a traveling guide in Guatemala. The donations will also help assist with the expenses for the travel guide's time and knowledge throughout our journey," they said.
Costs will also include travel, hostels or hotels, unexpected expenses, and simple meals.
Those who donate $10 will see their names appear in the credits; $100 will mean special early access to view the film after completion; $200 will mean an executive producing credit.
"We hope that you all can be part of our team," they said.
