Best Bets of the North Fork...here we go!
Peconic Jitney whisks passengers from Fork to Fork. Self Serve Yogurt in Greenport.
I will try to cover a few businesses and sights each time I am on here blogging. The North Fork has some truly amazing places.
A great new addition to Greenport is the new Peconic Jitney, the passenger-only ferry between Greenport and Sag Harbor. This is the way to travel to the Hamptons...in my book, the only way. The ride is beautiful, skirting around the west side of Shelter Island, passing the South Ferry, and into the heart of Sag Harbor's, main wharf, by the Bay Street Theatre and the old windmill. There was a big benefit yesterday on the wharf, and traffic was at a standstill. Another case for taking this ferry. It is a bargain at $20 roundtrip. On the return ticket was even a coupon for $20 off a mainstage production at The Bay Street Theatre. The ride takes 40 minutes each way. Make a reservation (peconicjitney.com) The only caution is there is hardly any signage, as it is brand new and on a trial basis. Support it! It picks you up in Mitchell Park, right by the Camera Obscura) And to those taking the reverse trip, there is a shuttle to the parking lot in Sag Harbor. I walked to the ferry from the B&B, so that makes it even cooler - no car required.
A fun new place in Greenport is Fro-Yopia, a self-serve frozen yogurt shop on Front Street. Many great choices, and you make it and add the various toppings and fruit yourself. It is weighed by the pound. So you can have the right portion for you. Then take a nice long stroll through town, and walk it off.
