Call To Action on Broken Traffic Light Using 'See Click Fix'

Jenny makes the case for the failure of the town to fix broken lights since Irene is an accident waiting to happen. Read more here.

Hooray for Jenny! On Thursday, she posted a request for the Southold Town Highway Department to fix a light on the junction between Reeves Road and Saltaire Way on Sound Avenue — a section that she says has been out since the hurricane in late August.

It is not safe to drive or walk at the light in such darkness

Where did she post it? On a website that allows citizens to flag repair issues and vote them up for attention by the town. I'm sure this was not the only public safety issue, but it's a good one.

And ... a Town worker fixed the light Friday afternoon!

It's almost a year since I pointed people to the See Click Fix website and set up a watch area here: en.seeclickfix.com/watch_area/15100-southold-town. Thanks to Benja Schwartz for help in setting up those boundaries. Were it not for that, we wouldn't have even received Jenny's flag.

This is a form of SMEM in action (social media bridging emregency management). If you want the town to respond to what YOU want done, in the interests of public safety, flag it on See Click Fix, share it on social media and get it voted up now for ACTION.
