The Kitty Knows It's Spring
After a long winter, the cat is itching to get outside. Who can blame him?
Mylo Winthrop Land, the beautiful one-year-old orange ball of love that we adopted from in the fall, is experiencing his first spring with us. He’s really itching to get outside and investigate the sights, sounds and smells of this beautiful season. In fact, he has resorted to sneaky tactics to secure his freedom.
It seems that Mylo grew a set over the winter and each time we open the front door, he manages to escape. He is still a scaredy cat though.
That was an intentional pun.
He never ventures off the porch. Instead, he lays down and rolls around on his back until he is picked up and tossed back inside.
After this little dance, he usually spends the next hour yelling at us.
In meows, of course. I’m not that crazy.
I usually spend the next hour tormenting him.
“Ha, ha,” I taunt in a sing-song voice. “You’re not allowed outside. Oh, poor baby! I’ll bet you wish you could get out there and eat those birdies.”
“Roworrr,” he replies.
I imagine he’s cursing me.
Oh, come on, it's all in good fun.
Mylo is an indoor kitty and we want to keep it that way, but I don’t blame him for wanting to escape. Now that the nice weather is here and the windows are open, he spends the majority of his time being teased by the birdies and squirrels that loiter around our front yard. Sometimes, they venture onto the porch and taunt him worse than I do.
Poor kitty. It must be rough life, spending your time staring through a screen at all of the things you want but can never have.
I think we can all relate, no?
It has been a long cold winter and I also want to spend as much time outside as possible. It is supposed to be the best week yet, so bring on the long walks and the barbecues.
I really feel bad for Mylo, but we’re not going to bend the rules for him. I’m sure he will continue to craft his great escape and keep us on our toes as we creep into summer. If you happen to see him while you are out and about enjoying this weather, please send him home!
I’ll try not to tease him too much.
