UPDATE: Southold Woman, 80, Hospitalized After Car Crash
80-year-old driver fails to yield to pickup truck while attempting a left-hand turn onto Route 25 out of the Empire gas station in Southold.
Betty Hermann, 80, of Southold was hospitalized after being pulled from a 2007 Toyota following a car accident at the Empire gas station in Southold just after 4 p.m. on Tuesday, police said.
Hermann was attempting a left turn onto Route 25 to exit the gas station when she failed to yield the right of way to Keith Zurek, 39, of Greenport who was driving a 2001 Dodge pickup truck, police said. Zurek, who was traveling with his wife, Laura, struck the driver's side door of Hermann's vehicle, police said.
Hermann was transported to in Riverhead by members of the for treatment to facial injuries. Keith and Laura Zurek refused medical attention at the scene, police said.
